Unsex Me Here

Performed at HERE, Summer 2014

Workshop productions at Dixon Place, Summer 2014

“No grace? No Womanhood? Ah, beastly creature!”

Step into a ritual celebration of female villainy with Unsex Me Here: A vicious showcase of the wicked ladies from William Shakespeare’s plays. Physically dynamic, ensemble-driven, and packing a pair of brass knuckles to be contended with. Directed by Jamie Watkins, Unsex Me Here fuses electric scenes with dance choreographed by Annalisa Ledson, while erasing the moral and sexual lines drawn between beauty and the grotesque. Starring Lori Parquet as our mistress of ceremonies, Lady MacBeth, who leads us through scenes featuring the original bad girls - Cleopatra, Regan, Goneril, Margaret, Tamora and Lavinia. These women of action will show us how to better understand and celebrate women for their bravery, their gumption, their appetites, and even their villainous deeds.

Come celebrate the forbidden, the dismissed and the reviled – these wicked women who’ve leaped from their dusty pages to teach us all a thing or two about the meaning of action.
